How can I tell if my computer is running Windows* 32-bit or 64-bit?

Follow steps specific to your operating system below.

Windows 7* or Windows Vista*

  • If "32-bit Operating System" is listed next to System type, you are running the 32-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7.

  • If "64-bit Operating System" is listed next to System type, you are running the 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Windows XP*

  1. Click Start.
  2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

Note The above image is of a 32-bit version of Windows XP*.
  • If "x64 Edition" is not listed, you are running the 32-bit version of Windows XP.
  • If "x64 Edition" is listed, you are running the 64-bit version of Windows XP.
