Update your Wi-Fi adapter driver and Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software

Before you update your driver or software
Your computer manufacturer can change features, incorporate customizations, or make other changes to your adapter software. Intel recommends you contact your computer manufacturer for the latest system-specific updates and technical support information. Intel provides generic versions of Wi-Fi drivers for general purposes.

The Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility is used to set up, edit and manage network profiles to connect to a network. The features and implementation vary depending on which operating system you are using.

Intel® Driver Update Utility
The easiest way to update your Intel Wi-Fi driver and software is to run the Intel Driver Update Utility tool. This tool identifies your adapter and updates your driver to the latest version, if needed.

Manual Driver Download
Before clicking the icon to download your driver, you need to know your Intel wireless adapter and driver version number.

After you have the software on your hard drive, double-click the executable. The installation wizard guides you through the process. For older drivers in a ZIP file, extract the compressed files to a folder on your computer, and double-click the EXE.

Note When you update Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software, the driver is also updated by default. If you do not want to install the driver:
  • Select Custom Setup during the installation process
  • Select This feature will not be available from the Intel® Wireless Driver dropdown.

During the install process, you need to choose between Typical or Custom option.

A Typical option installs the Wi-Fi protected setup and Intel® Wireless Troubleshooter features. The Wi-Fi protected setup quickly connects you to the Internet if your hardware setup is complete. Intel Wireless Troubleshooter helps troubleshoot connection issues.

A Custom option installs more features:

If you want to install only one of these features, select Modify on the appropriate screen and select the feature you would like to add.

Note If you plan to use Novell Client for Windows*, install it before installing Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility. If Intel PROSet/Wireless is already installed, remove it before installing Novell Client for Windows.
