Intel® PROSet/Wireless Network Connection Software version 10.1.x does not support DEP. DEP is supported in Intel PROSet/Wireless Network Connection Software version 10.5 and beyond.
What is DEP?
DEP stands for Data Execution Prevention. DEP is a feature of Microsoft Windows* XP Service Pack 2, Microsoft Windows* XP Media Center Edition and Microsoft Windows* XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

How does DEP impact the operation of Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection Software?
The default setting for DEP is OptIn. When DEP is confiured for OptIn, the Intel® PRO/Wireless Network Connection Software is not affected by DEP.
If DEP is configured for OptOut or AlwaysOn, an error might be displayed: "212 Problem applying Profile!" If this error is displayed, disable DEP for the Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection software. Disabling DEP is not required if no error is displayed.
How can DEP be disabled for the Intel PROSet/Wireless Network Connection Software?
To disable DEP for the Intel PROSet/Wireless Network Connection Software, follow these steps:
- Right click on “My Computer” and select “properties”
- Click on “Advanced” tab
- Under “Performance” click on “Settings”
- Click on “Data Execution Prevention” tab
- Select “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”
- Click on “Add…”
- Select: “C:\ProgramFiles\Intel\Wireless\Bin\Dot1XCfg.exe”
- Click OK until all pop-up windows are closed
- Restart the computer
