Software Components The Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection has two software components: a device driver and a device management utility.
- Device driver: Provides communications between the network connection, the device management utility, and the operating system.
- Device management utility: Manages the activities and features of the network connection. The device management utility can be Intel PROSet/Wireless software, Microsoft Windows* XP wireless management, software provided by the computer manufacturer, or software provided by a third party application.
- Intel PROSet/Wireless software downloads include a device driver and a device management utility.
- The device driver component must be installed for the network connection to function.

Identify Your Wireless Adapter and Driver Version
The Intel Wireless LAN Identification Utility is an easy to use tool that will identify which wireless adapter and driver version are installed in an Intel® Centrino® processor technology notebook computer. Alternate methods can also be applied to identify your wireless adapter and driver version.
Older Software VersionsOlder versions of Intel PROSet software may contain device management software components for both Intel wired and wireless adapters. The version of the device driver can be viewed on the details screen (see figure below). If you are not running Intel PROSet, then identify the driver version using device manager as described in the section above.
