Error: Device Not Found

If you receive "Error:Device not found" when you are setting up a device, verify the following:

Wireless Signal Strength
Security Settings
Wireless Interference During Set Up

Wireless Signal Strength

The wireless signal strength needs to be strong enough to reach the device. See manufacturer’s documentation for signal strength specifications.

Solution: Adjust distance of the router to the device or adjust the router/device antenna positions.

Security Settings
The device needs to support the same security type that is set on the router. For example, if the router security is set to WPA but the device only supports WEP, the device will not connect to the network.

Complete the following steps from the Intel® Viiv™ technology-based PC to view the router security type:

  1. Start the Intel® Viiv™ software.
  2. From the Intel Viiv Settings, select view network map.
  3. Select network details.
The security type field lists the security type.

Solution
: If the security types are different, change the router’s security type to match the device’s security type. You can change the security type through the Intel Viiv software or through the router’s administrative tool.

To change the security type using the router’s administrative tool, see router manufacturer’s documentation.

To change the security type using the Intel Viiv software, complete the following steps in the Intel Viiv software from the Intel Viiv Settings screen:

  1. Select set up a network.
Follow the screen instructions until you reach the “network detected” screen.

NOTE: Your router and Internet connections should already be set. Responding to questions up to the “network detected” screen will not affect your network.

  2. Select Advanced Setup and next.
Advanced Setup allows you to manually add home network details, including security types, keys, and SSID.
  3. Select yes and next.
  4. Do not change the network name. Select next.
  5. Select a security type that matches your device and select next.
  6. Select finish.

Now, try connecting to the device.

Wireless Interference During Set Up
The 802.11g wireless channel shares the same air waves with other wireless device. For example:

  • 2.4Ghz cordless phones
  • 2.4Ghz baby monitors
  • Other 802.11g network nearby or in the home.
  • Microwave ovens
  • Wireless cameras

Having these devices on during set up of the device or router could effect the set up process.

Solution: During set up stop using these devices. You can also change the wireless channel. See router manufacturer’s documentation for instructions for changing the wireless channel.
