TokenExpress™ EISA 32 Adapter
Driver Installation, NetWare* 4.x Server

This file contains instructions specific for the installation and operation of Intel's TokenExpress™ adapter driver. Refer to the appropriate Network Operation System documentation for any NOS-specific questions or other information.

These instructions apply to Release 5.0 of the software.

Installing and Configuring the Intel TokenExpress Adapter Driver for NetWare* 4.X or 3.12 Servers

The Intel TokenExpress adapter driver diskette contains two different NetWare 4.x or 3.12 server drivers. The OC32T164.LAN driver is only used for the TokenExpress EISA/32 adapter. The OCTOK162.LAN driver is used for all other TokenExpress adapters. These drivers are found on your Intel driver diskette in the \NETWARE\NW4X directory.

Note: Do not confuse the 4.x drivers with those located in the \NETWARE\31X directory on the diskette Novell NetWare v3.12 uses the driver in the \NETWARE\NW4X directory.

Introduction

You can install the TokenExpress adapter driver using two methods: running the INSTALL utility and installing directly from diskette.

Each method is described below.

Installing the driver using the INSTALL utility

  1. Boot your NetWare 4.x or 3.12 Server.

  2. Enter this command at the NetWare prompt (:)

    LOAD INSTALL

The INSTALL utility will prompt for the parameters needed.

  3. Select "Maintenance/Selective Install."

  4. Select "LAN Driver Options."

  5. Select "Load a LAN Driver not listed" by using the <INS> key,

  6. Insert the Driver diskette in the diskette drive and load the appropriate driver:

    EISA/32: OC32T164

    All other TokenExpress adapters: OCTOK162

follow the prompts for the remaining parameters.

Installing directly from Diskette

  1. Boot your NetWare 4.X or 3.12 server.

  2. Insert the Intel adapter driver diskette #1 in drive A:

  3. Enter the appropriate command at the NetWare prompt (:)

    For EISA/32 adapters:

    LOAD A:\NETWARE\NW4X\OC32T164.LAN slot=[xxxx]

For MCA and EISA 16/4 adapters:

    LOAD A:\NETWARE\NW4X\OCTOK162.LAN slot=[xxxx]

    For all other TokenExpress adapters:

    LOAD A:\NETWARE\NW4X\OCTOK162.LAN port=[xxxx]

Where [xxxx] is the slot/port number corresponding to the location of the adapter.

Note: The above adapter-specific parameter is required when you are installing the TokenExpress adapter in an EISA system. For a list of additional NetWare parameter options, refer to the "LOAD" command in the NetWare 4X System Administrator manual.

  4. After returning to the NetWare prompt, enter the command:

BIND IPX TO OC32T164.LAN (for the EISA/32 adapter)

    or

BIND IPX TO OCTOK162.LAN (for all other TokenExpress adapters)

Loading the TokenExpress driver automatically during system boot via AUTOEXEC.NCF

Copy the TokenExpress adapter driver to the server's SYSTEM directory by performing the following steps:

  1. Login as supervisor to the server you set up in the above steps.

  2. Insert the Intel adapter driver diskette into the workstation's floppy drive.

  3. Copy the appropriate adapter driver (\NETWARE\NW4X\OC32T164.LAN *or* \NETWARE\NW4X\OCTOK162.LAN) from the diskette to the SYS:SYSTEM directory on the servers hard disk.

  4. Add the following commands to the server's AUTOEXEC.NCF file:

To enable SOURCE ROUTING, load the Novell NetWare ROUTE.NLM module as follows:

  1. If the Intel TokenExpress adapter is the only Token Ring adapter in this computer, enter the following command at the Netware prompt:

    LOAD ROUTE

    Otherwise, enter the command:

    LOAD ROUTE BOARD=[board_number]

where [board_number] is the number corresponding to the Intel adapter.

  2. Run the NetWare INSTALL utility and invoke the SYSTEM OPTIONS menu. Modify the AUTOEXEC.NCF file to include the above entered command. Early Token Release is the default setting for this driver when operating at 16 Mbps.

When using the driver with an ISA or EISA 16/4 adapter in an EISA server that has more than 16 megabytes of RAM, it is necessary to add the following line to the servers STARTUP.NCF:

    STARTUP.NCF:

SET reserved buffers below 16 meg = 64

This applies to:
