TokenExpress™ 16/p Adapter
ISA 16/4 Adapter Switch Settings

These instructions apply to Release 5.0 of the software.

The TokenExpress adapter comes equipped with two slide switches and one switch block. These switches and switch block allow you to easily configure the adapter to fit your particular installation requirements.

One slide switch is used to determine the speed setting for your adapter. This switch may be set at either 4 or 16 Mbps, depending on the speed of the Token-Ring to which your computer is connected.

The second slide switch is used to select the cabling type that you will use with your adapter. The STP setting enables output through the 9-pin connector (DB-9) for operation over Shielded Twisted Pair cabling. The UTP setting enables the RJ-45 connector and the on-board media filter for operation over Unshielded Twisted Pair cabling.

The switch block is used to determine the Remote Program Load (RPL) enable/disable, the RPL address, the interrupt level select, the I/O address select, and the DMA address select. The possible switch settings are as follows:

Switch 1 - RPL ENABLE

On EEPROM is disabled (Default)
off EEPROM is enabled

Switch 2 - 6 - RPL Address

2 3 4 5 6
on on off off on (Default - CC000-CDFFF)
0 0 1 1 0 (0 = on, 1 = off)

Switch 2 - 6 set the 8K address space for the RPL EEPROM. The EEPROM can be placed on any 8K boundary from C0000 to FE000.

Switch 7,8 - Interrupt select

7 8
on on Interrupt 9 (Default
on off Interrupt 3
off on Interrupt 10
off off Interrupt 11

Switch 9,10 - I/O Address select

9 10
off off A20-A23, A30-A3F
on off A24-A27, A40-A4F
off on A50-A53, A60-A6F
on on A54-A57, A70-A7F

Switch 11,12 - DMA select

11 12
on on DMA 5
on off DMA 6
off on DMA 7
off off Programmed I/O

Note: Setting switches 11 and 12 to off forces the driver/adapter to transfer data using programmed I/O. Though not normally used, this setting may be necessary if your computer does not support the AT Bus Master Mode properly.

When the TokenExpress ISA adapter is installed in an 8-bit slot of a PC/AT, programmed I/O is used regardless of the switch setting.

This applies to:
TokenExpress™ 16/p Adapter
TokenExpress™ EISA 16/4 Adapter
