EISA/32 IBM-PC LAN V1.3 Driver Error Messages

These instructions apply to Release 4.0 of the software.

You'll always find the most current version of the driver instructions are available through Intel's online services. If the driver software has changed, you can get the latest drivers and instructions from Intel's online services. Always check the revision date of the document to make sure you have the most updated copy.

Errors are listed in numerical order and appear in this format:

Error 161E

Message: No adapters found

Action: Check that you've installed the adapter correctly. Make sure it is seated firmly in its expansion slot.

Error 162E

Message:Interrupt arbitrator not loaded

Action: Copy the file OC01IA.SYS from the Intel Drivers diskette to the Network directory. Then add this line to the computer's CONFIG.SYS file:

device=network\OC01IA.SYS
Make sure this line is the first line in your CONFIG.SYS file and that it precedes the OC02DLC.SYS and DXMT0MOD.SYS lines.

Error 163E

Message:Invalid node address. 12 hex digits needed if non-zero

Action: Look at the computer's CONFIG.SYS file. Check the node address you typed in the device driver line. The address should consist of 12 hex digits. Intel recommends that you make the first four digits 4000.

Error 164E

Message:Invalid node address. First digit must be 4, 5, 6 or 7.

Action: Look at the computer's CONFIG.SYS file. Check the node address you type in the device driver line. The address should begin with a 4, 5, 6, or 7. Intel recommends that you make the first four digits 4000.

Error 165E

Message:Unknown parameter on command line

Action: Look at the computer's CONFIG.SYS file. Check the Intel device driver line for errors or typos.

Error 166E

Message:Invalid adapter number on command line

Action: Look at the computer's CONFIG.SYS file. Check the adapter number you typed in the device driver line. The number should be one of the following:

0=first adapter in this computer (primary)
1=second adapter in this computer (alternate)
2=third adapter
3=fourth adapter

Error 167E

Message:An interface with this adapter number has been loaded

Action: Look at the computer's CONFIG.SYS file. Check the adapter number you typed in the device driver line. Make sure you use 1, 2, or 3 when installing more than one adapter in the same workstation.

Error 169E

Message:Unsupported or bad adapter at I/O address XX

Action: Run the diagnostics program. If the adapter malfunctions, call your dealer or Intel's Technical Support.

Error 170E

Message:Adapter self test failed. Returncode XX

Action: Run the diagnostics program. If the adapter malfunctions, call your dealer or Intel's Technical Support.
