NetWare EISA/32 Adapter Driver Error Messages

These instructions apply to Release 5.0 of the software.

The errors are listed in numerical order and appear in this format:

    Error 021x

    Message:  Lobe media tests:
            x=1:  function failure
            2:  signal loss
            5:  time-out
            6:  ring failure
            7:  ring beaconing
            8:  duplicate node addresses
            9:  request initialization
           A:  remove received

Action:

  • Make sure the network cable is securely connected to the adapter and to the MAU.
  • Make sure the cable you're connecting to the adapter is one of the cables Intel recommends. Refer to Step 4, "Connect the Cable" in the installation guide for a list of cable recommendations.
  • This error usually indicates that some node on the network is malfunctioning. If the previous suggestions haven't helped, there may be a problem with another node.
Error 022x

Message:Physical insertion:
where x = 1-A as shown for Lobe media tests message.

Error 023x

Message: Address verification where x = 1-A as shown for Lobe media tests message.

Error 024x

Message: Participation in ring poll where x = 1-A as shown for Lobe media tests message.

Message: Request initialization where x = 1-A as shown for Lobe media tests message.

Error 0400

Message: Transmit buffer count error

Action:

  • Try reseating the adapter in its expansion slot.

  • Run the Intel diagnostics program.

  • Make sure the adapter's settings are correct and don't conflict with any other device in this computer.
Error 0800

Message: Adapter RAM error

Action: See suggested action for Error 0400.

Error 1000

Message: Buffer size error

Action: See suggested action for Error 0400.

Error 2000

Message: List size error

Action: See suggested action for Error 0400.

Error 4000

Message: Invalid node address passed with Open command

Action: It's unlikely that this adapter has an invalid user-assigned node address. Edit the NET.CFG file and make sure the address is valid. The address should contain 12 hex digits. Intel recommends that you make the first four digits 4000.

Error F000

Message: Time-out

Action: The adapter may be defective. Run diagnostics, then contact your dealer or Intel's Technical Support.

Error F03x

Message: Adapter bring-up errors:

x=1: Adapter ROM checksum error
2: Adapter RAM error
3: Instruction test error
4: Context/interrupt test error
5: Protocol handler hardware error

Error F0xx

Message: Unexpected I/O register behavior

Action: See suggested action for Error F000.

Error F101

Message: Invalid init block passed to adapter

Action:

  • Try reseating the adapter in its expansion slot.
  • Run the Intel diagnostics program.
  • Make sure the adapter's settings are correct and don't conflict with any other device in this computer.

Message: Invalid initialization options

Message: Invalid receive burst count

Message: Invalid transmit burst count

Error F105

Message: Invalid DMA abort threshold

Message: Invalid SCB address

Message: Invalid SSB address

Message: Direct I/O parity error

Error F109

Message: DMA time-out

Action: Make sure the adapter's settings are correct and don't conflict with any other adapter in this computer.

Error F10A

Message: DMA parity error

Error F10B

Message: DMA bus error

Action: See suggested action for Error F109.

Error F10C

Message: DMA data compare error

Action: This computer may not support bus master mode properly. Try moving the adapter to an IBM computer (as opposed to an IBM compatible computer). If the adapter works in that computer, the adapter is working properly.

Error F10D

Message: Unrecoverable error during initialization

Action: The adapter may be defective. Run diagnostics, then contact your dealer or Intel's Technical Support.

Error F1FE

Message: Adapter DMA to wrong addresses in PC memory

Action: The adapter may be defective. Run diagnostics, then contact your dealer or Intel's Technical Support.

Error F1FF

Message: Time-out waiting initialize to complete

Action: Make sure the adapter's settings match the configuration parameters listed in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.

Error F200

Message: Time-out error waiting for a Read Adapter Buffer command to complete

Error F300

Message: Unexpected response to Open command

Action: Make sure the network cable is securely connected to the adapter and to MAU.

Error F400

Message: Adapter check during Open command.
