Intel® TokenExpress? Adapter
Boot PROM Install, with RPL - IBM PCLAN

Remote Boot Proms: RPL - IBM PC LAN Program

This file contains instructions specific for the installation and operation of Intel's TokenExpress adapter driver. Refer to the appropriate Network Operation System documentation for any NOS-specific questions or other information.

These instructions apply to Release 5.0 of the software.

Installing and Configuring the Intel® TokenExpress™ adapter RPL Driver for IBM* PC LAN.

To use the RPL ROM with IBM PC LAN, you must configure a "Domain Controller", then prepare the RPL image file.

  1. Install the Intel® TokenExpress™ adapter DLC driver using the INSTIBM program.

Insert the Intel TokenExpress adapter drivers diskette #2 in a drive and make that the current drive. At the DOS prompt type:

    \IBM\DOS\INSTIBM [source_drive] [target_drve]

    where

[source_drive] is the drive containing the Intel diskette. [target_drive] is the drive which you want to install the network software

    For Example: \IBM\DOS\INSTIBM A: C:

  2. Reboot the server. Note: The Intel® TokenExpress™ EISA/32 adapter does not support RPL when used in a workstation. The remaining installation steps are followed when the workstation contains one of the other members of Intel's family of TokenExpress adapters.

  3. See the IBM PC LAN Network Program Installation and Configuration manual to install PC LAN Extended Services. When prompted, make this computer a "Domain Controller." Then go on to the next step immediately. If you do anything else before performing the next step, some of the machine definitions you just set up may be lost.

  4. Immediately after installing Extended Services, run Intel's INSTRPL program. Insert the Intel TokenExpress drivers diskette and make that the current drive. At the DOS prompt, type:

    \IBM\DOS\INSTRPL [p1][p2][p3]

    where

[p1] is the drive containing the Intel diskette. Include the colon (:) in the driver name.

[p2] is the path to the IBMLAN directory.

[p3] is 0 if the workstation won't use expanded memory, or 1 if the workstation will use expanded memory.

Example: IBM\DOS\INSTRPL A: C:\ 1 This program copies the Intel RPL DLC driver (OC02DLCR.SYS) to a subdirectory under the \PCLP13XS directory and renames the copied file DXMC0MOD.SYS.

  5. Reboot the Domain Controller computer and invoke PC LAN.

  6. See the IBM PC LAN Network Program Installation and Configuration manual, and perform the following steps as described in the manual:

    • Define the RPL workstation to the Domain Controller
    • Assign the workstation to a Program Server
    • Prepare the RPL image for the workstation
    • Start the Program Server
    • Boot the RPL workstation

When you boot the workstation, the RPL ROM automatically adjusts to the TokenExpress adapter's switch settings.

This applies to:
TokenExpress™ 16/p Adapter
TokenExpress™ EISA 16/4 Adapter
TokenExpress™ EISA 32 Adapter
TokenExpress™ MCA Adapter
