Follow these steps to Quick Erase a tape:

1. Insert the tape you want to erase in a StorageExpress™ system tape drive or Autochanger magazine. Note the drive or Autochanger number containing the tape you wish to quick erase.

   Note: With Central Console v1.4x and above, you can Quick Erase StorageExpress system Image tapes for recycle.

2. Run Central Console. From the Main menu , choose Utilities.

3. Select Tape Commands.

4. Highlight the StorageExpress™ system and select Continue. (This will temporarily suspend jobs in the Job schedule.)

5. Choose Quick Erase Tape from the tape utility menu.

6. Choose the tape drive or the Autochanger and tape magazine slot containing the tape you wish to erase.

   Note: For Autochanger tape drives only: You have the ability to select multiple tapes in the Autochanger magazine, erasing all of your tapes at once.

7. Select Quick Erase. The tape will be blank and ready to reuse in 3 to 10 minutes.

8. Select Done at the tape utility menu. If you fail to select Done, the jobs queued in the job schedule will fail to run.

   Note: When you want to use a new tape, you don't need to format it first. The tape is preformatted for use for the backup.
