Fan Current Change to Boxed Intel® Xeon® processors:
The 38mm fan that ships with Boxed Intel® Xeon® processors 3 GHz and above are provided by two different manufacturers. All 38mm fans with Boxed Intel® Xeon® processors 3 GHz and above that shipped before August 2004 require a maximum current draw of at least 1.5 Amps. Some server boards available in the market do not meet these current requirements, therefore a fan cable adapter that connects directly to a peripheral power connector was provided with the Boxed Intel® Xeon® processors. Beginning August 2004, all Boxed Intel® Xeon® processors 3 GHz and above began shipping with a new fan requiring less current, and no longer require this cable adapter. Beginning August 2004 the cable was been removed from the boxed packaging.

Determine if you need this fan power adapter cable:
(Observe the hologram affixed to the top center of the fan for manufacturer and Intel part number. The manufacturer name and Intel part number are provided in the table below)

Fan Power Adapter Cable Flyer:
A flyer in the package advising customers to use this adapter cable was inadvertently left in the package after switching to this new fan. This occurred during the first half of August 2004. If you have purchased a Boxed Intel® Xeon® processor with a flyer in the packaging, then please review the "Determine if you need this adapter cable" in Table 1 above.
