Installing the Intel® Processor Identification Utility Windows* version

Note For successful installation and use with Windows XP* and Windows 2000*, it is required that the user have system administrative rights.
  1. Download and save the Windows* version of the Intel® Processor Identification Utility.
  2. Select Run in the Windows Start menu, and then browse to the location where you have saved the Intel Processor Identification Utility program.
  3. Select the Intel Processor Identification Utility program, choose Open, and then click OK.
  4. Select Next at the InstallShield* Wizard.
    Note If a previous version is installed, the InstallShield Wizard will provide three options: Modify, Repair and Remove. The previous version of the Processor Identification Utility should be removed prior to installing the newer version.
  5. At the Software License screen, select the radio button agreeing to the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.
  6. In the Custom Setup installation screen, choose the destination location and folder name for the program installation and click Next to continue.
    Note The Intel Processor Identification Utility is installed under the Programs folder in the Start menu, by default.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions for the program installation.
  8. Click Finish in the Setup Complete window. Installation is now complete. It is not necessary to restart the computer before running the Intel Processor Identification Utility.

Running the Intel Processor Identification Utility

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs » Intel Processor ID Utility, and then select the Processor ID Utility program.
  2. At the Intel Processor Identification Utility License Agreement screen, click Accept. The Processor Identification Utility screen will appear and display information about your processor.

Multi-processor or dual-processor support

Multi-processor or dual-processor support is only available with the Windows XP, and Windows 2000 operating systems. The Intel Processor Identification Utility has the ability to determine the frequency of each processor in a multi-processor system. The application also includes an indicator for the processor currently being tested.
