Initializing the APIC ID's with the BREQ0 Line

This document clarifies initializing the APIC ID's with the BREQ0 line.

There is some confusion, when using a Pentium® Pro processor/82450 based system, if the priority agent needs to deassert BREQ[3:0]# during reset.

The priority agent, the OPB, will not affect the BREQ[3:0] lines as it has no connections to these signals. The OMC is responsible for asserting BREQ0# a minimum of 4 clocks before RESET# is negated to set up the APIC ID's. No other agents assert BREQ[3:0] during reset. BREQ[3:0]# are naturally pulled up and will be deasserted until the OMC begins driving the BREQ0# line.

This applies to:
Intel® Pentium® Pro Processors
