Conversion # SMD930012
Description of Change:
The entire Pentium® Processor Family is converting from the B-1 step to the C-1 step. The C-1 step will improve overall availability and bin-split to 66MHz. The C-1 step also corrects all B-1 errata. The C-1 step Pentium® processors are functionally and pin compatible with B-1 step production parts.
There are no changes to electrical characteristics. Customers following Intel's design specifications will be able to plug the C-1 step into existing boards without modifications. The C-1 step will be made using the same fab / assembly / test sites currently manufacturing the B-1 step.
The C-1 step conversion includes implementation of a heatspreader on all devices.
All Pentium® processors will also convert to an Adhesive Die Attach (ADA) process. This change is scheduled to slightly lag the C-1 step implementation - initial C-1 step samples and production will be assembled using the current Eutectic Die-attach process. This is the same ADA process step which has already been qualified and implemented on the entire Intel486Ô CPU Product line, (reference Conversion #SMD920009 published November 1992 and Conversion #A01920013 published April 1993).
Finally, there is a change to the package marking associated with the conversion to the C-1 step die. Please see the attached mark diagram for details.

Pentium® (C-1) Processor Mark Diagram
The next several pages show the mark diagrams for:
- Production units of the the new Pentium® Processor C-1 Stepping with heatspreader (the inner box-outline in the diagram below)
- Samples of the C-1 Stepping (again with the heatspreader)
- Production mark diagram for the B-1'' stepping without the heatspreader for comparison.

Production Mark Diagram
Notes:
The inner line box defines the edge of the heatspreader.
Ink Mark = All Logo information on the heatspreader.
Laser Mark = The two lines of information above and below the heatspreader.
SS = Speed
NNN = Specification Number
FFFFFFFF = FPO # (Test Lot Traceability #).

Samples Mark Diagram
The mark diagram for samples is identical to production units with one exception:
The second line of the sample mark diagram begins with 'Q' instead of 'S'. The rest of this line is a QDF # instead of an S-spec #; samples are ordered by QDF#.
Notes:
The inner line box defines the edge of the heatspreader.
Ink Mark = All Logo information on the heatspreader.
Laser Mark = The two lines of information above and below the heatspreader.
SS = Speed
NNNN = Sample QDF number
FFFFFFFF = FPO # (Test Lot Traceability #).
