Can I update my Intel® Core™2 Duo Desktop Processor, Intel® Core™2 Quad Desktop Processor or Intel® Core™2 Extreme Desktop Processor to an Intel® Core™ i3 Processor?

No, because the Intel® Core™2 Duo Desktop Processor requires a different socket than the Intel® Core™ i3 Processor. The Intel® Core™2 Duo Desktop Processor uses an LGA775 socket while the Intel® Core™ i3 Desktop Processor uses either an LGA1155 socket or a LGA1156 socket.

What sockets do the Intel® Core i3 Desktop Processors use?

The Previous Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processor uses a LGA1156 socket and the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processor and the 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processor feature a LGA1155 socket. Processors for each socket are not compatible with the other socket and because of electrical, mechanical, and keying differences. The boxed fan-heatsinks work across sockets because the socket footprint is the same. You need to match the Thermal Design Profile (TDP) of the respective processors to properly match the right heatsinks to the right processors.

Do any of the Intel® Core i3 Desktop Processors contain processor graphics?

The Previous Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processors support Intel® HD Graphics inside the processor package. The 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processors support Intel® HD Graphics 2000 inside of the processor package. The 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processors support Intel® HD Graphics 2500 or Intel® HD Graphics 4000 inside of the processor package.

What are the Intel® Core i3 Processor series DDR3 memory voltage limitations?

Intel recommends using memory that adheres to the Jedec memory specification for DDR3 memory, which is 1.5 volts, plus or minus 5 percent. Anything more than this voltage can damage the processor or significantly reduce the processor life span.
