Specification updates are technical documents that are released when a processor family launches. They are updated when new processors are launched or when documentation updates are required. They typically contain tables and definitions with information related to processor specifications such as processor top-side markings, processor stepping, and processor signature or id.

The processor identification table is particularly useful as it contains the S-spec number and information on other processor characteristics. Other information contained in the specification updates includes errata information, specification changes, specification clarification, and documentation changes.
