| Q: Can I hot-swap Xircom® PortStation modules? |
| A: While the PortStation modules can be hot-swapped if the operating system supports it, Xircom recommends that the USB cable and the AC power adapter be disconnected from the PortStation before adding or removing modules. |
Q: Can a Handheld device (like REX*, Casio*, Palm Pilot*, Handheld PC*, etc.) be synchronized with a computer using the PortStation serial module (STDB92)? |
| A: Yes. However, if the Xircom® PortStation STDB92 was installed after the synchronization software, you must run the software configuration program and select the appropriate PortStation communication port. If that doesn't fix it, uninstall the STDB92 using the README.TXT , uninstall the sync software, reinstall the STDB92, make sure it installs on COM4 or below, then, reinstall the sync software and configure it for the correct port. |
Q: Can a mouse or other low-speed serial device be used with the PortStation serial module? |
| A: No. The serial module does not support low-speed devices at this time. |
Q: Can more than one PortStation be connected to a single computer at the same time? |
| A: Yes. Multiple PortStations can be connected to one computer by utilizing the USB ports on the Xircom® End Cap, or the Xircom® 4-Port or the Xircom® 7-Port USB hub modules. The 1.x USB specification limits the number of devices to 127 in a maximum of four tiers. |
Q: Can one PortStation be connected to two computers at the same time? |
| A: No. A USB device can have only one Host Controller (computer) connected at a time. |
Q: Can two or more modules of the same type be used together? |
| A: Up to six of the same type modules can be used together. |
Q: How many PortStation modules can be connected between the endcaps? |
| A: A maximum of six modules can be connected between the endcaps. |
Q: Where can I get Windows* 95, Windows* 98, Windows NT* and Windows* 2000 installation (driver) files? |
| A: You can download the latest installation/driver files from the software and drivers page. |
Q: Why doesn't my STDB92 work on COM5 or above under Windows* 95 or Windows* 98? |
| A: Some serial devices (like the STDB92) are not able to access ports above COM4 due to software limitations. You must move your STDB92 to COM4 or below. |
