XircomŪ PortStation Dual 9-pin Serial Module (STDB9)
Uninstall and Reinstall XircomŪ PortStation Serial Port Module

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click System, and then click Device Manager.
  2. Locate the Universal Serial Bus icon and double click it.
  3. Highlight PortStation Dual Serial Port Module and click Remove.
  4. Find the Infrared icon and double click it.
  5. Click Infrared communications device, then click Properties
  6. In the Device Usage section, click "Disable in This Hardware Profile."
  7. Click OK. When prompted to restart the computer, click NO.
  8. Find the Ports (COM & LPT) icon and double click it.
  9. Click on Virtual Infrared COM Port, then click Properties.
  10. In the Device Usage section, click "Disable in This Hardware Profile."
  11. Click OK.
  12. Close Device Manager. When prompted to restart the computer, click NO.
  13. From the Desktop, double click My Computer, right click the C: icon, and then click Find. 
  14. Enter "XIRSER" in the Named box and click Find Now.
  15. Delete the file named "XircomXIRSER.inf."

    Note: If the file was not found, close the Find window and click View in My Computer. Click Folder Options, then click the View tab. Under Hidden files, click the radio button next to Show all files. Click OK. Return to step 13.

  16. Reboot the machine.

The Serial Module detects and installs at COM2 and COM3, COM3 and COM4, or COM4 and COM5 depending upon which communication ports are used by the operating system.

The infrared device can be re-enabled if needed. It installs on the next available communication port above the PortStation Dual Serial Port Module.
