Q. What if I can’t see other computer in the "Network Neighborhood?"
Q. What if I can see other computer on the USBnet Network, but can’t access its files or printers?
Q. When networking a Windows 98 SE computer to a Windows 98 (any version) computer, why do I have trouble transferring data?

Q. What if I can’t see other computers in the "Network Neighborhood ?"

  • Ensure that the USB cable is securely plugged in on both ends of the USBnet adapter.

  • Try shutting down and then restarting the computers.

  • Be sure the software is installed on both computers on the USBnet Network.

  • Be sure that both computers on the USBnet Network have the same protocols (i.e. TCP/IP, NetBEUI) installed and those protocols are bound to the "USBnet USB Network Connection."

  • Disable "sleep" or "power saver" modes on all computers.

  • Enable Windows* Logon in the Network Neighborhood.

Q. What if I can see the other computer on the USBnet Network, but can’t access its files or printers?

  • Be sure sharing is enabled on both computers.

  • Be sure that both computers have the same protocol (i.e. TCP/IP, NetBEUI) installed and bound to the "USBnet USB Network Connection."

Q. When networking a Windows* 98 SE computer to a Windows* 98 (any version) computer, I have trouble transferring data.  How do I fix this?

  • After transferring anywhere between 2 to 75 megabytes, a computer will lose the network connection, even though the USBnet Manager shows that the machines are still connected.  If an IP address has been assigned, machines will no longer be able to ping each other.
  • An Error message says 'Cannot copy (FILENAME). The specified network resource or device is no longer available.'  After rebooting the USBnet looks functional, but the error will repeat.  Please refer to the document on our support site entitled USBNet connections between Windows* 98 SE and Windows* 98 (any version).
