Problem:
Cannot install the PortGear USB to Ethernet Adapter (PGENET10) in Windows* Millennium.
Resolution:
Initially the PortGear USB to Ethernet Adapter was not supported under Windows Millennium. Due to customer demand for support under this operating system, functionality is supplied through the Windows 98 driver set. Please follow the installation steps listed below.
1. Upon insertion of the PGENET10, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear.
2. Choose to "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)". Click Next.
3. Remove selection for "Removable Media (Floppy, CD-ROM..) and choose to "Specify a location".
4. Click "Browse" and point to the Win98 folder. If using CD you would browse to the drive for your CD-ROM and then the Win98 folder, example is D:\\Win98. If using the downloaded file you would browse to C:\\Windows\\Temp\\Win98, or where you selected to extract the file. You will know you have selected the correct directory when the "OK" button turns solid.
5. Click OK when the location has been set to the Win98 folder.
6. Click Next.
7. The "Add New Hardware Wizard" should display it is ready to install the driver for the PGENET10. The path you browsed to should be displayed with the file NETUE10.IN shown. Click Next.
8. After installation select Finish.
9. If prompted to restart your computer select Yes.
10. The PGENET10 should be listed as a Network Adapter within Device Manager (Select the Start button, select Settings, select Control Panel, select the System icon and select the Device Manager tab to view a listing of all devices currently installed. If you do not see the System icon in Control Panel, select to View all Control Panel Options).
11. Click on the Start button, select "Run", type winipcfg in the space and press the "Enter" key. You should have the Xircom USB - Ethernet Adapter as a choice in the list of adapters. Click "OK" to close the window.
12. Installation is complete, please install other networking components as specified by your provider.
