Inserting the Xircom® REX in the PC Card Slot under Windows* 2000 does not work because the REX is not recognized by Windows 2000 without the Xircom driver. However, even after installing the Xircom Windows 2000 REX driver, the REX still will not function in the PC Card Slot.
- Insert the REX card into the PC Card Slot.
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware Device Manager, PCMCIA Adapters.
- It may say REX or it may indicate the presence of an unknown device with a question mark.
- Select the card and right-click on it.
- Choose the option Uninstall and let the uninstall finish.
- Eject the REX card from the PC Card Slot.
- Reboot the system.
- Run the REXW2KUPGRADE executable file again as follows:
- Click Start, Programs, Windows Explorer
- Double-click on the Xircom folder, then double click on REXW2KUPGRADE.
- You should receive a "Success" message.
Insert the REX card back into the slot. You should see the Found New Hardware wizard and the installation should proceed normally.
To verify that the card is correctly installed, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware Device Manager, PCMCIA Adapters. The REX should now be displayed.
