XircomŪ REX 6000 (REX6000)
No COM Port Available in Intellisync* When Using REX6000 USB Docking Station

Issue:
When running Intellisync for Rex, the COM Port Selection box is empty and no COM port can be selected when the REX6000 USB Docking Station is used.

Cause:
This could happen because of a corrupt installation. The steps below will outline how to uninstall and then reinstall the USB Docking Station. This problem will also happen when the REX6000 is not in the USB Docking Station.

Resolution:

SECTION I - Removal of USB Docking Station
  1. When running Intellisync for Rex, before selecting either Synchronize or Configure, make sure the REX6000 is in the USB Docking Station. If it is, and you still cannot choose a COM port or you do not see a COM port, proceed to step 2.

  2. Remove anything for the USB docking station from Device Manager:
    1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
    2. In Control Panel, double-click System, then click the Device Manager tab.
    3. Expand the listing for Universal Serial Bus Controller section by clicking on the plus (+) sign to the left. If there is a minus sign(-) proceed to step d.
    4. Remove anything that refers to Xircom USB Rex cradle. If you see anything listed for Xircom USB under the Other Devices section in Device Manager, remove that as well.

  3. Remove the USB Docking Station from Add/Remove Programs:
    1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
    2. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    3. Remove Xircom USB to Serial Rex Cradle. When you click the Remove button, a confirmation dialog box will appear showing:
Xircom USB to Serial REX Cradle driver and installation files
      -and-
Xircom USB to Serial REX Cradle configuration data
Make sure BOTH ARE SELECTED, then select OK or Uninstall.

Note: Sometimes the Add/Remove Programs application will close in between removing programs. If this occurs, simply double-click Add/Remove Programs again.

    4. Then, remove the Xircom USB to Serial Converter in the same manner, if listed.

  4. Open Windows Explorer and go to the C:\\WINDOWS\\INF\\OTHER folder. Delete any files that have the name Xircom or Rex in their titles. (It may be necessary to set your computer's properties to show all files. To do this in the Explorer menu, click Tools, folder Options, then the View tab. Select the option to Show All Files.)

  5. Search your hard drive for any additional files. Click Start, Find (or Search), then Files or Folders (or For Files and Folders). Search for rexser*, and delete anything you find within the C:\\WINDOWS directory or its subfolders.

  6. Unplug the USB docking station from the computer.

  7. Shutdown and reboot your computer.

SECTION II - Reinstallation of USB Docking Station

IMPORTANT! Make certain you have installed the REX 6000 Driver Set before performing this procedure.
  1. Connect the USB Docking station to your computer's USB port. Windows will automatically detect the REX USB Docking Station.

  2. The Hardware Wizard will appear. When prompted, select Specify a Location. Browse to the WIN98 folder of the Xircom CD or to the WIN98 folder where you extracted the downloaded drivers. If you are running Windows 2000, browse to the WIN2K folder instead of WIN98.

  3. The New Hardware Wizard will detect new hardware three (3) times. Each time it finds new hardware, make sure the proper folder is specified (as mentioned in the previous step) before you continue.

This completes the USB docking station installation.
