- For the initial installation, connect AC power to the PortStation Output End Cap using the power module supplied (AC power depends on the type and combination of modules used and may not be required for PortStation operation).
- Plug the PortStation Input End Cap into the USB port on your computer, or into a separate USB hub, using the USB cable supplied.
- Start Windows NT* 4.0 and log on as Administrator.
- Insert the PortStation CD-ROM. The Xircom Setup for Xircom PortStation will run.
- Click Next. (If Setup doesn't run a few seconds after the CD is inserted:
- Click Start, click Run, and then enter the path to the Xircom Setup program (usually D:\SETUP).
- Follow the instructions on the screen to install all PortStation files.
- Restart the computer by clicking Yes if prompted, or click Start, click Shut Down, and then click Restart.
- Once Windows NT has reloaded, click Control Panel and then click Devices to verify that the installed PortStation devices are activated. The modules are identified by their driver file names, as follows: XirSer, XIRPTR, USBD, USBETH, USBHUB.
If you are not prompted to reboot, you may have to manually configure Xircom USB services.
- Check Windows NT "Services" to see if the driver "xirusb" is configured as "Started" and "Automatic".
- If it is not, use a command prompt or the Run command to run "xirusb /service" from the WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. Then restart the computer.
