Installation of Xircom(R) PortStation Modules Under Windows* 2000

The Xircom® PortStation modules do not work properly after installation.

Cause:
The incorrect drivers were used when the PortStation modules were installed.

Resolution:
When you install PortStation modules under Windows* 2000, you must specify the Win2000 folder on the Xircom compact disc.

Not Yet Installed:

When you attach the PortStation module and start your computer, Windows* 2000 finds new hardware automatically, and the Hardware Installation Wizard appears. The Wizard, by default, searches the CD-ROM drive for the drivers:
do not allow the Wizard to search the CD-ROM drive. Before you click the Next button on the Locate Driver Files dialog box, clear the "Floppy disk drives" and "CD-ROM drives" check boxes, and then select "Specify a location".

Already Installed:

If the PortStation and modules were already installed without specifying the Win2000 folder on the Xircom compact disc, an improper installation results. Follow these steps to reinstall the PortStation:
1. On the desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties. Click the Device Manager tab. Uninstall each PortStation module: right-click each module name, and then click
Uninstall.

2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer*. Click the plus sign (+) next to the WINNT folder to expand it. Under the WINNT folder, double click the Inf folder, and in the right pane of the Windows Explorer window, delete any Oemx.inf files that meet ALL of these criteria:
(a) The x in Oemx.inf must be a number (for example: oem0.inf, oem1.inf, and so on)
(b) The Oemx.inf file must contain information relating to the PortStation. To determine this, open the file and search for the word PortStation.

3. Click Start, and then click Shut Down. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart and then click OK. After your computer restarts, reinstall the correct drivers. Follow the instructions in the 'Not Yet Installed' section above.
