XircomŪ GSM Connection Kits (GSMCK, GSMCK2, RGSMCK)
Xircom GSM Connection Kits Support DCS, GSM and PCS Networks

Xircom® GSM Connection Kits support three GSM standards, at this time:

  • GSM (900MHz) - Global Systems for Mobile Communications
  • DCS (1800MHz) - Digital Cellular Systems
  • PCS (1900MHz) - Personal Communications Services
GSM Telephone Types
Different phones are needed for each network. For example: Ericsson has the GF 788 is suitable for 900Mhz GSM networks, the PF 768 that works with the 1800Mhz DCS networks and the CF 788 works with the 1900Mhz PCS networks. Multimode phones are expected in the future. These phones, as the name implies, will support different networks. In the mean time it is more convenient to remove the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) or Smart Card from current phone and use it with a rented model compatible with the region being visited.

In Europe the majority of networks are of the GSM (900 MHz) type. However, in the UK (Orange), Germany (E-Netz) and in France (Bouygues Telecom) DCS (1800 MHz) networks are also available.

Canada and US use the PCS (1900MHz) system. While in the Asia-Pacific area you may find all three depending on your location.

Default Telephone Mode
The Transparent Network mode is used by default with Xircom connection kits. This means that as long as the connection kit being used is compatible with the GSM telephone being used, the same functionality is experience regardless of the network GSM, DCS or PCS) being used.
