Busmastering is a technique which allows data to be transmitted by the adapter without interrupting the host processor. This allows a LAN adapter to process network intensive or high-speed data without significantly slowing down the overall performance of the PC. Busmastering allows a very high level of performance from an adapter that supports it, while maintaining a high level of efficiency from the PC.
