IntelŪ PROSet for Device Manager tabs are not visible through terminal services

Symptom(s):
Intel® PROSet for Device Manager tabs are not visible through Terminal Services when viewed through Microsoft* Internet Explorer. The tabs are visible when a user is logged on locally to the Server. An event ID 20 is also logged to the event log.

Logging in via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) or computer scripts that access the WMI layer for advanced features of an Intel® network adapter may fail.

Cause:
The default user when accessing the Intel® network adapter remotely or through machine scripts is the "Interactive User."

Solution:
Change the default user account from "interactive user" to a user with administrative rights.

For Windows* 2000:

  1. On the target system, click the Start menu and click Run.
  2. Type "dcomcnfg" in the text field, click OK. The DCOM configuration properties window will open.
  3. In the Applications tab, highlight NCS2Prov and click Properties.
  4. In the NCS2Prov Properties window, click the Identify tab. Change the user account to "the launching user"
  5. Click OK to exit the NCS2Prov Properties window. Click OK to exit DCOM configuration.

For Windows* XP and Windows* 2003 Server:

  1. On the target system, click the Start menu and click Run.
  2. Type dcomcnfg in the text field and click OK. The Component Services Console Root window will open.
  3. In the left pane, double-click Component Services, Computers, My Computer, and DCOM Config.
  4. In either pane, right-click NCS2Prov and select Properties. The DCOM configuration properties window will open.
  5. In the NCS2Prov Properties window, click the Identify tab. Change the user account to "the launching user."
  6. Click OK to exit the NCS2Prov Properties window. Close the Component Services window.
