Solution:
ODI Driver Support
1. Full error reporting capability can be obtained by using Novell's LANalyzer Version 2.2 and the 16-bit DOS based ODI driver, for your network adapter, which are fully promiscuous.
2. The ODI driver can be used in a Windows* 95 or Windows 98 environment, but it requires that separate hardware profiles and boot menu options be implemented.
Note: In earlier driver releases, the 32-bit *.LAN driver was supported in this environment. That is no longer the case. The *.LAN drivers are only supported in a Server configuration and lack the *.INF file needed to provide promiscuous mode operations. This is due to Novell's move toward drivers based on the NDIS specification.
NDIS Driver Support:
1. The current NDIS specification does not fully support error reporting, so some error packets (runts, shorts, oversized packets, overloaded server errors) will not be passed up the stack when the NDIS drivers are used.
2. Since the NDIS stack is less than cooperative in passing errors, the software developer had to come up with a means to replicate these errors to their software (application layer). With no real process in place, each developer has done this according to their own extensions to the NDIS specification and their development paradigm. In most all cases it required a separate modification to the Xircom NDIS driver to work with each program. Each sniffer package has different requirements and modified drivers are generally provided by that developer. These drivers are not Xircom drivers and are not supported by Xircom.
