Configuring the NIC in another machine and setting the I/O to 350 should fix the problem.

Maximus 486/22 DLS EtherExpress 16 Family

The Maximus 486/33 DLC machine will not work with the EtherExpress Family of adapters or any other type of ethernet card. This is a problem with the machine. IPX and NETX will execute but the computer hangs during login or slist.

MCCI Motherboard EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16TP Network Adapter Compatibility: Conditional

MCCI reports the EtherExpress 16TP card showed problems with their chip set (by Contaq V82C596). This is a problem on the Rev 0 mother board and changing to a Rev A mother board solves the problem.

Morse Motherboard EtherExpress 16 Family

Customer reports that SoftSet fails diagnostics on a machine with a Morse motherboard in a low-profile type box with Award Bios, expansion bus on a daughter board, and DOS ODI driver v2.x. This is a 16-bit bus timing issue and the EtherExpress card must be forced to 8-bit mode.

NCR 3230 (486 DX33) EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress Family of adapters

Symptom:
Various errors from SOFTSET including unprogrammed EEPROM. Description:
VGA may be set at I/O 300 causing a conflict with the EtherExpress card.

Solution:
Put the EtherExpress card in another PC. Change its I/O to other than 300. Move the card back to the original PC and try again.

NEC Powermate 325 W/Pheonix BIOS 1.01 EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16 Family of Adapters Compatibility: Conditional

Based on a customer report, SOFTSET may return the error: "Board not found" when run on a NEC Powermate 325 with Pheonix BIOS 1.01 (1985-1990) with an EtherExpress card installed. There is an i/o address conflict because the serial and parallel ports are set to i/o address 300 which is also the default i/o address for the EtherExpress cards. To solve this problem, change the i/o address for the serial and parallel ports in the cmos setup to 2fh.

NEC Image 433 EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16 Network Adapter Compatibility: Conditional

NEC tested an EtherExpress 16 card containing an 8100 boot rom with an NEC IMAGE 433 machine. SOFTSET would not allow the user to set up the EtherExpress card and gave an unprogrammed EEPROM error. This problem is caused by the 1.0026 BIOS in the NEC IMAGE 433 machines. Upgrading these machines with the 1.0036 BIOS will solve the problem. Download the new BIOS from the NEC BBS, then follow the upgrade instructions in the NEC manual.

OLIVETTI M24 EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16 and 16TP Compatibility: Conditional

Customer reports that the Olivetti M24 is incompatible with the EtherExpress cards. The Olivetti M24 is similar to the AT&T 6300. These machines are not 100% IBM compatible.

There has been a report that the newer cards/drivers work in these machines.

Olivetti 486 Multi-Processor EISA EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16, 16TP, 16C, and FlashC cards (ISA only) Compatibility: Incompatible Reported by: INGRAM LABS

The EtherExpress card fails SoftSet's on-board diagnostics (82586 test) and hangs the computer. The Olivetti 486 multi-processor EISA is a 10-slot EISA and does not need slot-specific I/O above Axxx, so the machine blocks out all I/O addresses above Axxx. The EtherExpress cards use shadow memory in the Cxxx range for communicating with the ethernet controller (82586). Since this machine blocks out Cxxx addresses, SOFTSET's diagnostic test fails. There is no solution. The

EtherExpress ISA cards are incompatible with this machine.

Omega 386 33 EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16TP adapter Compatibility: Conditional

Customer reports that Omega 386 33 with AMI BIOS failed the diagnostic responder test. By changing the "Scratch RAM option" from the default "using BIOS stack area at 0030:0000" to "Reducing base memory by 1k" the card worked fine. (Note: The card may still have to be in 8bit mode)

PC LTD 286 12MHZ (Early Dell) EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16TP Network Adapter Compatibility: Conditional

Tricord ES5000 EtherExpress 16 Family

Symptom:
Workstation loses connection when using load balancing on file server. Configuration:

TRICORD Powerframe ES5000 file server Two or more Flash32's in the server BALANCE.NLM and STATS.NLM from National Statistics INC.

No problems expericenced if BALANCE.NLM is not loaded.

Description:
BUS master problem compounded by BALANCE.NLM.

Solution:
Set ON=30 and OFF=30 when loading the FL32.LAN drivers on the file server. User was able to run six FLASH32 adapters in the system using these settings.

Note: FlashSet is not compatible with the TRICORD ES5000. FlashSet damages the NVRAM of the system. Either preconfigure the Flash32 with ECU and disable Flash, or remove the Flash chip from the adapter.

UMC 486 4SLUD Version 1.0 EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16 Network Adapter Compatibility: conditional Reported by: Confirmed UMC Systems

Symptom:

Solution:
Don't put the EtherExpress cards in slots 6 or 7.

UNISYS AT EtherExpress 16 Family

Product:
EtherExpress 16 Network Adapter Compatibility: Compatible

The EtherExpress 16 card must be in memory mapped mode to work with the Unisys AT machine running at 10mhz. If the Unisys AT machine is running at 8mhz, the EtherExpress 16 card does not have to be in memory mapped mode.

Machines without aE hard drive:

SOFTSET cannot be run from a floppy drive. For SOFTSET to run, a configuration file has to be created on another machine and the /load parameter for SOFTSET has to be used. The SOFTSET command syntax is: SOFTSET /LOAD=PATH/FILE.CFG.
