Xircom® Drivers
The Xircom drivers are located on the Xircom Driver CD that comes with the Xircom card. However, drivers are updated from time to time to resolve issues and to provide enhancements. We recommend that you download the latest driver set from our Web site and use that to install your Xircom card.
The instructions in this document request that you point to the Xircom CD for the Xircom drivers. In order to use the downloaded driver files, point to the extracted Xircom files instead of the Xircom CD.

CardBus Card Installation
This section will assist with the installation of the Xircom CardBus cards mentioned above.
All necessary Xircom files are located on the root of the Xircom CD that came with the product. The Windows* 98 source files (required during the installation) are typically located on the local hard drive in the C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS directory. These files can also be found in the WIN98 directory on the Windows* 98 CD-ROM. Start the computer WITHOUT the CardBus card inserted. Allow Windows 98 to boot fully.
- Place the Xircom CD into the CD-ROM drive or be sure that you know the full path to the directory where the CardBus card driver files are located on the hard drive
- Insert the CardBus card into the computers PC Card slot. Windows 98 will automatically detect the presence of the card and indicate that it has found new hardware by displaying a dialog box entitled Update Device Driver Wizard. Prior to displaying the dialog box, Windows 98 may indicate that it is building a driver information database. If this process occurs, allow it to complete.
- The text in the dialog box should read "This wizard searches for new drivers for: PCI Ethernet Controller"
- Accept the default selection Search for best driver for your device
- Click Next
- On the next window, the default search location is Floppy disk drive
- Check the box for CD-ROM drive or specify a location (Type in the path or browse the drivers)
- Click Next
- Windows 98 will search the CD or the location specified for the card's driver. If Windows still recognizes the card as a PCI Ethernet Controller, make sure you are typing in the correct path to the driver files
- Click Next to accept this
- Windows 98 should read the driver files to complete the installation of the CardBus card
- During this process Windows 98 may indicate that it is building a driver information database
- When Windows states it has finished installing the software for the new hardware, click Finish
- At any point during the process, Windows 98 may request additional files. If this occurs enter the path to the Windows 98 source files. All files required for this installation reside in either the C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS directory, the Windows 98 CD, or on the Xircom CardBus card CD
- You may or may not be prompted to restart the computer. Do so if prompted
- When the installation process has completed, go to the Windows 98 Device Manager to verify the installation. This can be reached by doing the following:
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Click Control Panel
- Double click the System icon in Control Panel
- In System Properties, select the Device Manager tab
Execute SETUP.EXE on the Xircom CD to install the Xircom Utilities
At the completion of the adapter installation, open the Control Panel
Double click the Network icon
Review the clients and protocols displayed in the Network Properties box for applicability to your network.
Add and configure network clients and protocols as required.
