New Adapter Installation
With the computer powered on and Windows* Me loaded, insert your mobile adapter and connect the network cable and modem cable (if you are installing a combo card). Windows Me will detect the adapter and installs the default Windows Me LAN driver first, then a default modem driver. Although these drivers provide basic functionality, you will need to update these drivers with the drivers on the Intel® CD or from a downloaded file. To update the drivers, follow the steps outlined below under Upgrading Drivers.
Loading Drivers while Upgrading to Windows Me
Perform the OS upgrade to Windows Me. Allow Windows Me to install the drivers that came with Me for your adapter and modem. Then update the drivers following the steps outlined under Upgrading Drivers.
Upgrading Drivers in Windows Me
- Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and click Properties. Click the Device Manager tab.
- Find the Network adapters icon and expand if necessary. Select the Intel® PRO/100 adapter and click Properties. Click the Driver Tab. Click Update Driver.
- If installing from CD, insert the Intel® CD into your drive.
- The "Update Device Driver Wizard" will appear. Select Automatic Search and click Next to continue.
- After a few moments, the wizard displays the LAN driver on the Intel® CD and automatically installs it. Click Finish.
- Restart you computer when prompted.
- Repeat steps 4-7 for the Modem. In the Device Manager, expand the Modem listing and choose the Intel® PRO/100 Mobile Combo adapter.
- Restart your computer when prompted.
Installing the Graphic Utility
- Run setup from the Intel® CD or from the download folder to install the Intel® PROSet utility.
- When the initial screen comes up, click on the items you wish to install. Click install.
- When the program is finished installing, you will return to the initial setup screen. Click Finish.
For most networks, you will need to configure properties for your protocols, computer identification, and preferred servers. Contact your network administrator for details if you need assistance.
