My switch reports CRC and Runt errors after installing my Intel® Gigabit Adapter

Symptom(s):

  • Dropped packets
  • CRC errors
  • Runts

Cause:
There is an incompatibility between the software driver for the Intel® PRO/1000 T Server and Intel® PRO/1000 F Server adapters and the GMII interface on some Cisco* switches.

Solution:
We have discovered a problem between our current driver for the Intel® PRO/1000 F Server and Intel® PRO/1000 T Server adapters, and the following Cisco* switches :

  • Catalyst 3750 Series*
  • Catalyst 3550 Series*
  • Catalyst 3500 Series XL*
  • Catalyst 2950G Switches*
  • Catalyst 2912MF XL*
  • Catalyst 2924M XL*
The gigabit driver for the Windows* 2000 OS that resolves this issue is not in the standard download area but is available here:

PRO2KXP2.EXE

The driver for the Solaris OS that resolves this issue is also not in the standard download area but is available here:

INTCGigaE.tar.ZIP
