PRO/10+ ISA: Softset2 Reports "ERROR: ADAPTER NOT FOUND..."

SoftSet2 returns the error message:

"ERROR: ADAPTER NOT FOUND Could not detect an EtherExpress™ adapter in your system"

Many Plug-and-Play enabled systems will not assign system resources to Plug-and-Play ISA adapters if the CMOS setting "PnP OS" is set to YES. If the EtherExpress™ PRO/10+ ISA does not have any resources assigned, SoftSet2 will give you this error message.

  • If you are running an operating system that does not support Plug-and-Play (such as OS/2* or MS-DOS* without a DOS Plug-and-Play manager loaded), then the CMOS setting "PnP OS" should be set to NO and you should use SoftSet2 to disable Plug-and-Play in the adapter's configuration.

  • If you are running a Plug-and-Play operating system (such as Microsoft* Windows* 95), then the CMOS setting "PnP OS" should be set to YES and the operating system should assign resources. In this case, Softset2 should not be needed.

  • If you need to run SoftSet2 on an EtherExpress™ PRO/10+ ISA adapter in a Plug-and-Play enabled system, set "PnP OS" to NO in the CMOS settings.

  • To disable Plug-and-Play on the adapter, run SoftSet2. Select Change Adapter Configuration, then Advanced Options. Select Plug and Play, then select Disable. Press enter, then press the escape key. Press F10 to save the changes, then exit. At this point you will have to power the computer off and then back on.

This applies to:
EtherExpress™ PRO/10 and PRO/10+ ISA adapters
EtherExpress™ PRO/10 PCI Adapter
EtherExpress™ PRO/10+ PCI Adapter
