Intel® PRO/100+ Server Adapter
IBM Netfinity* and 004 Revision of Server Adapter Compatibility

The Intel® PRO/100+ Server Adapter (PILA8470B) with a PWA number of 729757-004 has PXE2.2 firmware code which causes a PCI Device checksum error when installed in IBM Netfinity* 5000, 5500 or 7000 systems and does not allow the system to boot. No other systems to date have shown problems and no other revisions of the adapter are affected. To workaround the issue, install the adapter in a non-affected system and then either download a new version (2.6) of the PXE code or disable the boot ROM.

To identify the adapter at issue, locate the label on the adapter that has a barcode and a series of numbers, the last six digits hyphen three digits are 729757-004. To identify the adapter from an unopened 5-pack box, the label located on the box end will have a "PBA: 729757-004" number located close to the center of the label. On single boxed adapters, the last nine digits of the Serial Number will be 729757004. If you need more assistance go to the Network Adapter & Driver Identification Guide.

  • To upgrade your boot agent or to disable the Intel® PRO/100 Boot Agent, download PROBOOT.EXE and follow the instructions in the readme.txt files.
