Intel® PRO/100+ Server Adapter
IBM Netfinity* Fails to Boot with PRO/100+ Server Adapter

The Intel® PRO/100+ Server Adapter (PILA8470B) with a PWA number of 729757-004 shipped with version 2.2 PXE firmware, which causes a PCI Device checksum error when installed in IBM Netfinity* 5000, 5500 or 7000 systems and does not allow the system to boot. No other systems have shown problems and no other revisions of the adapter are affected.

Solution

  1. Install the adapter in a non-affected computer
  2. Upgrade or disable Intel® Boot Agent

Identify Adapters Effected by this Issue
Follow these steps to identify the adapter:

  1. Locate the label on the adapter that has a barcode and a series of numbers.
  2. Verify that The last digits are 729757-004.

To identify the adapter from an unopened 5-pack box, the label located on the box end will have a "PBA: 729757-004" number located close to the center of the label.

On single boxed adapters the last nine digits of the Serial Number will be 729757004.
