The second generation of the Intel® PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter (product code PWSA8701T, part number A98148-xxx) features improvements over the original version (product code PWSA8700T, part number A57521-xxx).
The 8701 has improved circuitry and is shipped with firmware compliant to iSCSI draft .16-.19. Improved firmware to go to .20 (and improved method of upgrading firmware) is now available in Download Center. The PWSA8700T can also use the updated software and firmware; however, if it is using firmware version less than 2.0, please contact Intel® Customer Support (by phone or email in North America, by email only from other areas) for an interim update needed before updating to the latest version.
The 8701 differs visually from the 8700 by a switch block mounted on the adapter. This was originally intended to control access to the flash memory when applying updated firmware, but is now only needed for failsafe upgrades.
