What are the cable requirements for the Intel® 10 Gigabit AF DA Dual Port Server Adapter?

  • Direct attach passive copper cables compliant with the SFF-8431 v4.1 and SFF-8472 v10.4 specifications.
  • The adapter supports SFP+ Direct Attached passive cables (Twin Axial) only
  • SFP+ optical modules cannot be used with this adapter. If you plug an optical module into this adapter, the module will not be recognized.
  • Maximum cable length is 7 meters.

What is direct attach Twin Axial cable?
2-pair shielded copper cabling terminated with SFP+ electrical modules.

Are active and passive cables both supported?
Only passive cables are supported.

Which cables are compatible with the Intel 10 Gigabit AF DA Dual Port Server Adapter?
The Intel® 10 Gigabit AF DA Dual Port Server Adapter and Intel® 82598 10 Gigabit Ethernet Controller-based connections support any SFP+ passive direct attach copper cable that complies with the SFF-8431 v4.1 and SFF-8472 v10.4 specifications.

Note Active direct attach cables are not supported.

Intel participates in testing with other members of the Ethernet Alliance to ensure interoperability between cables and host ports that meet the above specifications.
