Many people are adding a Windows* NT server to their existing NetWare* network or moving from NetWare to Windows NT. The purpose of this document is to help you prepare your printing services for this addition or change to your network.
Q1: Can I configure my NetPort® or NetportExpress™ print servers for Windows* NT?
A1: The NetportExpress XL, PRO and PRO/100 print servers can be used in a Windows NT network. The NetPort I, NetPort II, and NetportExpress EL print servers were designed for use only with NetWare* networks.
Q2: Can I add a Windows* NT configuration to the existing NetWare* configuration?
A2: Yes. Your NetportExpress™ print server may service print jobs from both NetWare and Windows NT simultaneously. The instructions you need to follow depend on:
- Which NetportExpress™ print server model you have.
- Which version of Windows* NT you have.
- Whether you want to spool your print jobs with NetBIOS or by using TCP/IP addresses.
Use the following table to determine the correct instructions to use. Use only the steps indicated below.
Q3: I want to remove the existing NetWare* configuration and configure it for Windows* NT only. How do I accomplish this?
A3: To remove the existing configuration, highlight the NetportExpress™ print server in the NetPort® Manager software. Select Utilities and then Factory Defaults. Use the documents listed above to configure the print server under Windows NT. Use the full set of instructions, rather than the steps specified above.
Q4: I don't see any options for Windows* NT in the NetPort® Manager software for my NetportExpress™ XL print server. What's wrong?
A4: Each NetportExpress XL print server to be configured with Windows NT must be running a software version at or greater than 3.01 with NetPort Manager software release 3.01 or later. The software version used by your print server may be viewed in the General Information area of the Status screen, within the NetPort Manager software. Look for the Application code version and the RBL version. These numbers should match at 3.01 or above. For the best results, use the most current release of software available.
If you have not yet removed your NetportExpress™ XL print server from the NetWare* environment, follow the instructions included with the software to perform the flash update before removing your NetportExpress XL print server from the NetWare environment.
The NetportExpress™ PRO and PRO/100 print servers can be configured with Windows* NT using the software version shipped with the product. However, for the best results, use the most current release of software available.
