Symptom:
When the NetportExpress PRO print server is attached to a bootp segment of a network, it automatically obtains an IP address.
Description:
The NetportExpress PRO print server must do this to accommodate networks where the only option for obtaining an IP address is to use bootp.
Solution:
To remove the IP address:
- Disable bootp from the network
- Set the NetportExpress PRO print server to factory defaults
- Use the Configure Print Services option in NPMgr to configure for UNIX & SNMP.
- Set the IP Resolution Options to Manually Assign IP Address. Leave the NetportExpress PRO server IP, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway fields blank.
- Click on Save and configure the NetportExpress PRO print server for the desired protocols
- Verify that the Status screen in NPMgr shows "not configured" for TCPIP
If you do not want to set the NetportExpress PRO print server to factory defaults, do the following:
- Telnet into the IP address as ROOT
- Select the options to manually configure an IP address
- Enter 0.0.0.0 for the address
- Save this configuration. Your telnet session to the NetportExpress PRO print server will end
- Verify that the Status screen in NPMgr shows "not configured" for TCPIP. You will not be able to telnet back into the NetportExpress PRO print server.
