Intel® NetportExpress™ PRO and PRO/100 Print Servers
ERROR: Print server automatically obtains an IP address

Symptom:
When the NetportExpress™ PRO print server is attached to a bootp segment of a network, it automatically obtains an IP address.

Description:
The NetportExpress PRO print server must do this to accommodate networks where the only option for obtaining an IP address is to use bootp.

Solution:
To remove the IP address:

  1. Disable bootp from the network
  2. Set the NetportExpress PRO print server to factory defaults
  3. Use the Configure Print Services option in NPMgr to configure for UNIX & SNMP.
  4. Set the IP Resolution Options to Manually Assign IP Address. Leave the NetportExpress PRO server IP, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway fields blank.
  5. Click on Save and configure the NetportExpress PRO print server for the desired protocols
  6. Verify that the Status screen in NPMgr shows "not configured" for TCPIP

If you do not want to set the NetportExpress PRO print server to factory defaults, do the following:

  1. Telnet into the IP address as ROOT
  2. Select the options to manually configure an IP address
  3. Enter 0.0.0.0 for the address
  4. Save this configuration. Your telnet session to the NetportExpress PRO print server will end
  5. Verify that the Status screen in NPMgr shows "not configured" for TCPIP. You will not be able to telnet back into the NetportExpress PRO print server.
