Symptom: NetportExpress PRO print server doesn't show up in NetPort® Manager or on the File Server w/ Display Servers.
Description: The NetportExpress print server's Frame Type Autosense logic autosensed to the wrong frametype. The NetportExpress PRO print server may not show up in Netport Manager if the print server's box gets a reply from another file server running a different frame type.
Example: Customer is running Ethernet type II on their file server and workstations. When they plugged in the box it sent a request on the 802.2 frame type and got a response from another file server over a wide area link. Now the Box is talking 802.2 and their Netport Manager (running Ethernet type II) can't see it. Their local file server, which is also running Ethernet type II, can't see it with a display servers.
Solution: Fist use the diagnostics button on the NetportExpress PRO print server to see what frame type the print server is actually running and what file server responded. Then on the workstation, add that frame type temporarily. Start NetPort Manager, choose ADVANCED \ NETPORT MANAGER PREFERENCES... and change the option for discovery to BROADCAST DISCOVERY. Stop and Restart the NetPort Manager. Now you will be able to see the NetportExpress PRO print server in the Netport Manager. From the ADVANCED menu in NetPort Manager choose PRO COMMUNICATIONS SETUP. Under IPX Frame TYPE take the NetportExpress PRO print server out of the Auto Sensing mode and select the frame type needed for the local network.
Remember to remove the frame type temporarily added to the workstation running NetPort Manager. Also, change the discovery method back to DISCOVER USING SAP.
