Platform Event Traps will occur for may reason. To reduce events logged in the System Event Log, be sure to review information on reducing events in the System Event Log. If the server continues reporting Platform Error #8 events, use the instructions below to disable LAN Alerts.
Preventing LAN Alerts resulting in Platform Event Trap #8:
- Power (or reset) server.
- Press F2 during POST (Power-On Self Test) to enter BIOS Setup Utility.
- Select the Boot menu, and then select Boot Priority Menu.
- Set the CD-ROM (or DVD-ROM) drive as the first boot device.
- Insert the Intel® Express Installer CD.
- Press F10 to save changes and exit.
- Boot system to the Intel® Express Installer CD to the Configuration Wizard.
- Click Continue from main Configuration Wizard screen.
- Choose Server Configuration Utilities and click Continue.
- Choose Run System Setup Utility and click Continue (this action will launch the System Setup Utility.
- Once System Setup Utility has loaded, press any key to continue
- Choose LAN Setup and click OK.
- Uncheck the box Enable LAN Alerts and click Save
- Once configuration is saved, click OK and then click Close
- Choose SEL Manager and click OK
- Click on SEL in the Menu bar and select Clear SEL
- Click Yes to confirm you want to clear the SEL (System Event Log)
- Click on File in the Menu bar and select Exit
- Exit the System Setup Utility.
- Exit the Configuration Utility.
- Remove the Intel® Express Installer CD.
- Reset the server by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del.
- Press F2 during POST (Power-On Self Test) to enter BIOS Setup Utility.
- Select the Boot menu, and then select Boot Priority Menu.
- Restore your boot order settings.
- Press F10 to save changes and exit.
