Ultra160 Termination Requirement

Ultra160 (sometimes known as LVD) SCSI hard drives do not have onboard termination. When using LVD hard drives, an active LVD terminator is required to properly terminate the SCSI bus. This terminator may either be external at the end of the cable or built-in to a backplane device. A SCSI bus requires termination at both ends of the bus. The Ultra160 channel on the Intel® SBT2 baseboard is properly terminated. This termination cannot be disabled on the SBT2. The SCSI backplane in the Intel® SC5000 server chassis also provide the correct onboard termination and properly terminates the SCSI bus.

This applies to:
Intel® Server Board SBT2
