Migrating to a new chassis

Chassis migration can only be done between identical chassis:
MFSYS25 -> MFSYS25
MFSYS35 -> MFSYS35
MFSYS25V2 -> MFSYS25V2

To migrate to a new chassis:

  1. Update the firmware on the new chassis and components to the same version as on the existing chassis/components.

  2. Configure the new CMM, SCM and ESM to be identical to the existing system. This information is stored on an SD card on the midplane.  Alternatively, use the Intel® Advanced Management Pack to save and restore the existing configuration.

  3. If the original system had shared LUN activated:

    1. Visit Intel® License Key Activation and select “Request to Transfer License Key”. The midplane serial numbers from the existing and the new chassis are required to transfer the license key.

    2. Activate the shared LUN on the new system.

  4. Prepare the drives on the existing system for transport. This writes configuration data, including compute modules assignment, to the drives.

  5. Ensure both chassis are powered off.

  6. If you did not use the Prepare for Transport option, ensure drives are numbered and inserted into the same slots in the new chassis, as they were before.  If you prepared the drives for transport on the existing system, they can be reinserted into the new chassis in a different order, and the storage configuration will be recognized.
