BMC IP address should not be same as operating system IP address

Symptom(s):

If the BMC LAN channel IP address is set to same IP address of the operating system, operating system will report IP address conflict.

Cause:

Although the BMC LAN channel shares the physical LAN connection with the onboard LAN, the BMC LAN channel has a dedicated MAC address solely for BMC use. This allows the BMC to support features beyond standard IPMI-over-LAN, such as DHCP, full ARP request / response, and ICMP, without requiring a separate Ethernet cable.

Solution:

To avoid IP address conflict, either disable the unused BMC LAN channel, or set a BMC IP address different than the operating system IP address.

Operating System:
OS Independent
