BIOS hangs after removing hard drives

Pressing F2 may no longer enter BIOS setup, if a single hard drive is removed and an optical drive is added.  To work around this issue:

  1. Power off the system, but DO NOT unplug the AC power.

  2. Remove the HDD from the bay

  3. Enter BIOS and press F9 to load  the optimized default settings

  4. Install the optical drive

  5. Power on, and press F2 to enter the BIOS and change the boot order from hard disk to optical

  6. To return to a single hard drive and remove the optical drive, once again use F9 after removing the primary boot device.
