You may notice that no traffic passes after configuring a VLAN.
For example, Microsoft* Windows Server 2003 shows two installed Network Connections

Put Server 1:Port 1 on VLAN 3, leave Server 1:Port 2 on VLAN 1, and assign External: Port 10 to VLAN 3

When a system is plugged into external port 10, you would expect to be able ping Server 1: Port 1. However, Server 1: Port 2 may be listed by Windows as Local Area Connection, rather than the expected Local Area Connection 2, preventing traffic.
To restore expected functionality, click on either Local Area Connection, click on the Advanced menu tab, and go to Advanced Settings. View the binding order set by the OS.

To resume network traffic, either set Server 1: Port 2 to VLAN 3, as below:

or reverse the binding order in Windows using the directional keys to the right:
