Why do my system fan/fans run too high, or too loud?

Symptom
System fans may run full speed, a higher-than-normal speed, or run too loudly.

Solution

  • Run the FRUSDR (Field Replaceable Unit / Sensor Data Record) update, choosing the correct chassis. The SDRs establish the correct fan information for the system.
  • Verify the fan cables are installed on the right fan headers on the server board. Refer to the Quick Start Guide that came with your Intel® Server Board and Intel® Server Chassis.
  • See BIOS Setting -> Fan Profile Setting, Performance Compared to Acoustic Mode
  • Install processor and memory air ducts, unless otherwise specified in the quick start guide or user manual that came with your Intel product.
  • Check the System Event Log for malfunctioning components.
