Running Intel® Active System Console on a 64-bit OS using a 32-bit browser

This article applies to systems currently using Intel Active System Console from the Intel® Server Management Software 1.x package only.

The Intel® Active System Console, which is part of the Intel® System Management Software suite, supports the 64-bit version of Red Hat* Enterprise Linux.

Intel® Active System Console requires the Macromedia* Flash Player to run. Macromedia* Flash players are not currently available for browsers on 64-bit operating systems. If you install the Intel® Active System Console on a device running a 64-bit OS, you need to install a 32-bit browser to run Flash Player and view the console. To download the Macromedia* Flash Player 7, go to the Adobe* website to obtain a copy.

A 32-bit browser (Mozilla* or Firefox*) must also be installed to run Macromedia* Flash Player 7 before the Intel® Active System Console can be used.

Follow the instructions below to install a 32-bit browser into a 64-bit Linux Operating System.

  1. Download the 32 bit version of Mozilla* or Firefox*.
  2. Extract the tarball and install in a directory(e.g: /opt/mozilla32).
  3. Download the 32 bit flash player for the Mozilla* or Firefox* browsers.
  4. Extract the contents of the 32-bit flash player tar ball into a temporary directory (Ex~/tmp).
  5. Change directories into the temporary directory.
  6. Copy the *.so files into the /opt/mozilla32/plugins directory.
  7. Copy the *.xpt files into the /opt/mozilla32/components
  8. Modify /usr/share/applications/walupui.desktop file:
    1. Find the exec line that contains the following: Exec=mozilla
      file://usr/LANDesk/ldsm/Walkup/frameset.htm
    2. Change this line to read: =/opt/mozilla32/mozilla
      file://usr/LANDesk/ldsm/Walkup/frameset.htm
