1. Select components using the Spares and Configuration Guide.

2. Choose a supported processor from the Tested Processor List. Also, check Important information on support of Intel® Xeon® processor 5300 Series and Information on support of Intel® Xeon® Processor 5400 & 5200 Series.

3. Choose components from the Hardware, Memory, and Operating System Compatibility list.

4. Integrate the hardware using the Quick Start User's Guide.

5. Update the BIOS and firmware.

   • There are two types of BIOS/Firmware packages, Firmware Update Package for DOS and Firmware Update Package for the Intel® Deployment Assistant and Intel® One-boot Flash Utility. Follow the instructions on the download page.

   • Also update SAS Software RAID Firmware and OpROM Update and/or Hardware RAID Firmware (SAS Midplane or SAS Midplane-2) if applicable. See the readme file or Release Notes included in the firmware package for installation instructions.

6. Configure RAID (if applicable). Follow the instructions in RAID Software User Guide.

   • See chapter 5 if you're using Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II (Software RAID)

   • See chapter 6 if you're using Intel® Integrated Server RAID (Hardware RAID)

7. OS installation. Check Software & drivers for required storage drivers for supported OS. See the readme file or Release Notes included in the driver package for installation instructions.

8. Post-OS driver installation. Depend on your OS, you might need to load chipset driver, video driver, network driver and backplane driver. Follow the instructions on the download page.
