Latest BIOS and Drivers
For the latest Intel® RC440LX Server Platform BIOS and driver files, see the RC440LX Server Platform Software, Drivers and Utilities page.

Upgrading the BIOS
To upgrade the BIOS, download the latest version (as noted above) to a temporary directory on your system.

  • Extract the BIOS to a DOS-bootable diskette using the command BIOS A:
  • Boot the system using the newly-created diskette
  • From the options presented, select "Update Flash memory from a file"
  • When the process is complete, remove the diskette
  • Reboot the system

Performing a BIOS Recovery
Performing a BIOS recovery requires the following steps:
  • First extracting the latest BIOS to a DOS-bootable diskette, as above
  • Then use the Baseboard Technical Product Specification to locate the recovery jumper and move it to the recovery position
  • Turn on the system with the bootable floppy in the drive
  • There will be no video, but a single beep and a flickering floppy light indicate the process has begun
  • Two beeps and the floppy drive light going out indicate the initial load is complete
  • Leave the floppy in the drive and reboot, using the "Update Flash memory from a file" option

Hard Drive Recommendation
It is recommended that hard drives not be installed in the external peripheral bay. The Chassis Technical Product Specification lists several factors, including Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and increased Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).

PFC = Power Factor Correction
Power Factor Correction, or PFC, is implemented with the RC440LX power supply and is a requirement in Japan and most European countries.

Tested Memory
